Modification of 47" Samsung TV

To overcome a thermal problem with visible image distortion after approximately 1hr, D3 added small heatsinks to the video memory chips and other IC's, plus this external fan mounted outside on the rear cover. The interior RF shield is seen under the fan blades. After a test running over four hours, the TV continued to operate without degradation-success!

70 Year Old Meter

A meter out of a tube tester with a hand-typed paper manual dated 1940. D3 created a new CPU USAGE panel for the meter in Inkscape. An Arduino micro-controller is driving a current source transistor for testing and interface.

24KM 3KW Radar

Gracious gift from a local lobster man, lucky to have a 24KM radar with display (not shown)....D3 isolated fault to power supply board in display unit, and built temporary multi-voltage supply with PC power supply to drive system....works great, demonstrated good discrimination and tracking of paddle board user just inside a causeway at 200yards...clearly indicated large container ship offshore waiting entry into major harbor....plan to mount it on car shortly.

Frog Flash

D2 design for a sophisticated secondary flash-on-a-stick with optical slave circuit cobbled together with photo resistor out of printer and a high voltage triac from something else; works great....will use shortly for spring frog photo quest as peepers recover from recent very cold night....

HAL for Home

RFID Keyed Entry: D3 designed a circuit to convert the square-wave output of a RFID reader to control a relay that is connected to our garage door opener. This is an inside view of the assembly and installation. On the front of the house, waving a tag just below the small red LED (visible through the hole and on the front to indicate sensor location) opens or closes the door.

Light Box

A great light box built from a CCFL back light extracted from an old LCD display. Exceptionally uniform light intensity distribution across the entire surface. The colored squares are filters. It runs on +12vdc (2amps) & + 5vdc.
